templates - ugh!

Because I love to "free hand" my long-arm quilting, it's always a stretch for me to use a template of any kind.  I have a straight edge for cross-hatching but recently I had a customer (hi, Kathy C.) who wanted a Celtic design in her beautiful Flying Geese quilt.  (Irish heritage)
It's a king size quilt with over 500 flying geese units - yowza!!!
I just kept putting it off contemplating
how I was going to quilt it.
Then I found this curved boomerang template....alrighty then!

 You can get one here
I watched the video over and over and decided it just might work!
So I pulled up my big girl panties and started quilting.
It was challenging, to say the least, and I only broke 2 needles in the process...
See the y-ouch on my new template:

What I didn't realize is that I was creating a larger secondary circlular pattern throughout the quilt...
Onward and upward!  This was getting fun!

A little closer look...

She also made some pillow shams - Kathy's Kitty loves the quilt, too.

Thank you, Kathy C., for allowing me to quilt this beauty.
I'm not so afraid of templates any more!

  5. I saw your quilting on the Notes of Sincerity granny squares quilt. Did you use a pantograph or freehand the design?
