Swoon.....ing!

I love this pattern....you can find it here.  It's a Thimbleblossoms design.  I loved it the first time I saw it hanging up in a quilt shop in Utah several years ago.  It's a beauty!  But, I didn't piece mine!  Nope - I had my sweet friend, Trish, of Notes of Sincerity, piece it for me. You can read more about that process here. She does that for people!  And she did an absolutely beautiful job!  I love it!
I had randomly picked out 18 fat quarters (so I did have a little something to do with the process.)

I chose a solid grey background.

If I had to have a favorite block it would be the orange & navy blue one in the corner.

My customer, Elizabeth, from Virginia, sent her Swoon to me to be quilted.  She requested a Baptist Fan pattern for the quilting design.  Oh dear - I recognize when I can't do a particular pattern so I went searching to see who quilted the original Swoon of Thimbleblossoms.  It is Abby Latimer, of Utah.  So I contacted Abby - and wah-lah....she was willing to quilt both my Swoon and Elizabeth's.
Here is Abby's blog - she's wonderful to work with and does a beautiful job.  Both Elizabeth and I were beyond happy with the results.
Here is Elizabeth's quilt - I'm sewing the binding on for her to hand stitch.

She has a solid white background and very happy, pretty prints.

Elizabeth chose this sweet floral backing...it really shows off the Baptist Fan quilting.

I waited and waited for a sunny day to take pictures, but all I got was a snowy day.

Shhhhh......I guess you could say I completely cheated on my pretty Swoon...but, I am now the proud owner of a beauty.  (Thanks, Trish & Abby)

  1. Oh Kathy! We are (sort of) in sync! I'm working on a swoon right now...4 blocks down. So cool to see yours because I wondered how the blocks would look with a large print. I'm kind of stuck at the moment. Love the center block of blue and green! The fan quilting is pretty great! Love the work Trish does,,,She has a talent for perfection! :-)

  4. Baptist fans are my all-time favorite to hand quilt. But I've always wondered how they could be done on a machine without a lot of anchoring and clipping of threads.

    1. Abby uses a computerized machine - it stitched over previous stitches - no anchoring & clipping of threads! I would LOVE to hand quilt something with this design!

    2. Aaaah. (Light bulb goes on.)

It's an amazingly fast hand quilting pattern. Or at least I've found it to be because it doesn't require a lot of thought to keep following the curve around. :)
