Karen's Scrappy Trip

Karen, from Georgia, made this beautiful Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt.

I can't seem to get enough of this pattern - so many color ways I want to create it with.
Here is the online tutorial from Bonnie Hunter: Scrappy Trip Around the World tutorial.
Karen used all Bonnie & Camille fabrics and the placement of her blocks were inspired by one Camille made - found here.
Every quilt has a story and this is Karen's quilt story from her words:

"Part of the fun of making my Scrappy Trip Around the World was collecting fabrics.  Having made the decision to exclusively use Bonnie and Camille fabrics for this quilt, I began my search for their fabrics.  I decided early on not to limit myself to just one of their fabric lines, but instead mix together fabrics from several of their collections as most all of their colors and prints play together so well.

After shopping several local Atlanta area quilt shops, I realized that I would need to broaden my search for Bonnie and Camille fabrics, so I turned to Etsy where I found a great selection of both their more recent lines such as Little Ruby and Vintage Picnic as well as their older out of print collections like Miss Kate, Daysail, Hello Darling, and Scrumptious as well as wonderful Etsy sellers willing to offer small cuts of fabric. Plus, I love Etsy's low shipping costs, especially when purchasing only a small piece or two of fabric.

Once I had a good variety of fabric in hand, my piecing began and what a fun top to sew!  Just as I was finishing all of my piecing, one of the fabrics in the middle of the quilt top jumped out at me as not being a Bonnie and Camille. Urgh!!! Nothing doing but I just had to change out those six squares, otherwise I knew that every time I looked at the quilt my eye would be drawn to that renegade print.  Well, halfway into the frustrating task of changing out those pieces, I made the realization that the fabric was in fact a Bonnie and Camille and could stay after all! Oh well!!"

I quilted a simple cross-hatch design throughout the quilt.
It created these beautiful little 1 1/2" pillows all over the quilt.
Her backing is an extra wide "Vintage Picnic" from
Thimble Blossoms, too.

I love how Karen placed the aqua fabrics in the #6 position causing an aqua "chain" throughout her quilt - so, so pretty.

One day I'll finish one for myself - but in the mean time....I get to enjoy quilting others.
This is so beautiful, Karen, thank you for letting me quilt it and have "her" visit me for a short time.

    1. You should make another one - I have several in different stages. It's one of those that you can keep at your sewing machine all the time while working on others. Thanks for the compliment on the quilting - I enjoyed it!

  2. Love the quilt and your quilting really sets it off!! That is on my to do list. I started making blocks but they are literally very scrappy. I think I like the consistency that using the same designer gives. Great tip to put the same fabric in position 6. I bet I have enough DS fabric for one of those :)

    1. Ohhhhhh - a DS scrappy trip would be fabulous! I started saving my DS jelly rolls for one but ended up using them for other fabulous quilts. A solid in #6 would be so pretty.
