retreat projects.....oh. my. stars!!!

I was fortunate enough to get to teach the Lone Star quilt class at the McCall, ID retreat.
I love making Lone Stars....I know.....who says that???
I do!

The theme for the retreat was "Starry, Starry, Night" - perfect for getting you in the Lone Star mood.
This is one I made for Corrie - who hosted the retreat - made from a Kona solid jelly roll...she had kits available.

Here are photos of the projects that were created:
We welcomed the guests with Lone Star quilts hanging from the balcony - lots of inspiration!

Here's the first group of "guests" sporting their "Starry Night" scarves we all received.

Here's the second group of guests -
looking at......I don't know!

A serious purple project - so many parts!

Cindy finished this amazing denim & flannel cathedral window "heart" quilt.

OK - now on to the Lone Star progress...
Strip sets....

lots of strip sets...

so many different jelly rolls...

This is a planned Lone Star - cut into 45 degree strips.

Those numbered pins we all received came in handy keeping track of our star point order.
(thank you, Corrie & Des)

Nancy & Dianne (daughter & mom) finished a baby pink/gray just in time for
Nancy's baby girl, due next month - perfect for her.

Brenda's beautiful "country feel" star...

Shelly's Tula Pink scrappy jelly roll...

Shelto's finished Tula Pink star...

Lynette's planned Tula Pink jelly roll...

The same Tula Pink jelly roll as Shelto's - amazing how different they ended up!

Ramona's planned patriotic jelly roll.
Notice how she planned a navy diamond running through the center of each star point - so smart!

Paula's planned jelly roll....happy Paula!

LeAnn's scrappy Christmas jelly roll...

Shauna's 30's jelly roll scrappy star...(semi planned - see how the center star is all the same print).

JoJo's planned jelly roll....makes me smile!

Gwyn's beautiful planned Christmas bed size star...

I had such "star" students - you were all so diligent and did an excellent job!
Quilters hard at work....oh, how I love the hummmmm of sewing machines at work!

Several of us took a stroll down to the lake during sunset.

Perfect way to end a perfect week....

This is true....

We each received a "Starry, Starry, Night" CD full of 'starry' tunes for the trip home.

Ahhhhh - what an amazing retreat - I hope I get to repeat it again one day.

Thank you, Des & Corrie, from Craft Taffy -  for a beautiful week - I love you both.

Lone Star explosion!

I've been super busy making Lone Star models for a class I'm teaching in a few weeks at a quilting retreat.

I can hardly wait to get there!
It's in beautiful McCall, ID.
My friends at Craft Taffy are hosting it.
I can't even begin to tell you how much fun it will be!
There is always lots of laughter, surprises, goodies, fabulous food and meeting new friends.
What could be more fun?
It's September 20th - 23rd.
Here are a couple of samples I've made for the class:
I made this one from my stash - 11 different prints.

It measures about 70" square.
The backing is a piece I've had for a long time - I'm happy to finally find a home for it.

I made this one from a Kona solid jelly roll.
This beauty belongs to Corrie - of Quilt Taffy - she's hosting this retreat.
She will have kits available if you want to make one like hers.

She chose this adorable orange flannel for the backing.

These two quilts are friends now.
They're packed & ready to head to the retreat!
You could make a new friend at the retreat, too!

My chestnut neighbors wanted to help with the photography.
(sorry about the haziness - it's super smoky outside here in Montana with all the wild fires surrounding us....)

Aw - she wants to come to the retreat, too.

There are still a couple of openings for the first session  - Sept. 20th - 23rd.
Contact Corrie here if you want to snag one of those spots!
I would LOVE to see you there!

"Starry Starry Night" retreat.....I'm teaching!

I'm so happy that Corrie & Des, of Quilt Taffy, asked me to teach a Lone Star quilt class at their upcoming 2015 fall retreat in September.
You can read all about it here....on their craft taffy blog.

I'm Teaching at Craft Taffy

It's going to be in this amazing old lodge in McCall, Idaho.
I've gone the past two years and I wouldn't miss it for anything in the world.

I'll be teaching the Lone Star technique and once you understand how its put together, the "Starry, Starry" sky's will be the limits!
I will have a couple of models to chose from.
You can either make a scrappy looking quilt top, 70" x 70", out of one jelly roll like this one of mine:

Or you can make a traditional planned looking quilt top, 70" x 70" or larger, like this one of mine:
(mine is a queen size)

I will have instructions for you at the retreat.
You can contact me ahead of time for the materials lists.
(skill level:  intermediate)

Love the old rusty hinge on this barn door.

I pieced my backing with Denyse Schmidt prints.

My queen size Lone Star out of Fig Tree prints.

I'll be sending a little flyer with the information on the retreat with your finished quilts.
You should consider joining us for the "Starry Starry Night" fun!
