All the Trimmings Stockings...and a little giveaway!

My daughter, Erin, asked me to make some Christmas stockings for the family - I am happy to!
I asked her to go shopping for fabric and gave her a few of my favorite online shops.
Erin doesn't quilt - yet! - but she can certainly put fabrics together!
This is what she settled on:  At Pink Chalk Fabrics she found some Michael Miller's for her husband's stocking,

and some "Love & Joy", Dana Designs by Free Spirit, for all the girls:

I knew I wanted just a little bit of trim so I found this yummy package of ric-rac that Erin had given me and they matched perfectly!

The pattern I used is from Denyse Schmidt's website
It's a free pattern you can find here.
I am a complete fan of everything thing Denyse Schmidt creates.
I layered the "parts", lining, cotton batting & stocking fabric, then quilted each one differently.

After enlarging the pattern, (I made the large stockings), I cut each set out.
(Be sure to reverse each set so you have a front and a back that match up.)

Sew them together, add trims & layered top bits, bind and add a hanging loop.

Her pattern doesn't have the measurements for the binding.
I cut a 2.5" x 13.125" strip, sewed a 1/4" seam allowance, folded it right sides together, pressed it and stitched it on by machine.

These were easy and fun.

Leave a comment about what you put in your stockings at Christmas for a chance at a little bundle of 1/8 yard cuts of some of these prints!

  2. Those are so cute Kathy - not sure how you find the time! At this very moment I am making some itty bitty stocking ornaments to tie on packages. Our family stockings are probably the favorite thing around here to open. Items can very from jewelry to Christmas ornaments to favorite candy. Last year I received some very special material in mine. Even the dogs and the cat get stockings with dog cookies, new toys and catnip mice, etc.

  9. Love the bright and beautiful stockings you made. Our children are older and the stockings just hang as a decoration now, though we would place gift cards etc. inside on occasion before.

  11. The stocking in our home are filled with gift cards and a candy bar and items that are personal to each one. My favorites this year are baby bottles for my two 2-yr. old grand daughters' new dolls. Stockings are above and beyond everyone's favorites and my biggest challenge at Christmas. I just don't get the intrigue, but I keep up the tradition. I have to hide them until it is time to open gifts. We are talking adult children that enjoy it so much. Ugh!

  21. Hi Kathy....
There is always chocolate in our stockings - a favorite is the chocolate "orange" that you whack against the table to separate. And once Santa brought me a bottle of a special local craft beer... Your stocking are gorgeous!

    1. I'm thinking the orange in the toe must be a GIANT filler.... :) But, I love oranges so I could have a stocking FULL of them!

  24. Santa fills our stocking every year. He always puts an orange in the bottom too! He also gives us lots of personal hygiene items too. Santa likes to keep us clean!

I LOVE these stockings. I should have had you make ours. I sewed the toe to small, so Santa has to give us Cuties now.
