Patriot Guard...

My husband and I belong to the Montana Patriot Guard.
We escort fallen soldiers from the airport to their resting place while riding our motorcycles.
It's a national organization created years ago because a young wife was in the position that no one wants to be in - she had to bury her military soldier husband.
As she was heading to the funeral, there were protesters standing in her way
yelling terrible things about war, soldiers, etc.
Her heart was already broken - then to face such cruelty was almost unbearable.
So - the patriot guard was established.
(These are the patches on my motorcycle vest).

We ride our bikes and surround the casket at all times, protecting the family from any protesters.
We are always escorted by State Troopers.
We stand, holding American flags, as long as the family needs us, at the funeral home or the final resting area.
If we need to, we can play the National Anthem from our motorcycle speakers to drown out any protesters voices - pretty awesome!
It's - to say the least - a completely humbling experience every single time.
I find myself with tears streaming down my face each time we ride for the "guard".
You can read more about the Patriot Guard here.
I'm getting ready to ride.....headbands are essential!

We have an annual meeting every June
which includes a raffle.
The funds go towards accommodations, food, and any other expenses incurred by the members in order for them
to be able to ride.
I decided to donate a patriotic quilt for the raffle this year.
It was my honor to make it for this program that I am so proud to be a member of.
I chose to make a Lone Star out of a patriotic jelly roll.

I used the left-over strips for a border.

The backing was pieced with solid blue
& the red/gold star fabric.

The label...

I think it turned out pretty nice.....

I love this crew of riders....I would ride anywhere with them.  (that's me - 2nd from the right - the only girl rider that day.)

  3. It's sad to think that a group like this is even necessary. But so good that there are selfless people like you to provide this service. And your quilt is beautiful! Hoping you raised a great sum from the raffle.

    1. It is sad to think we have to create this type of protection, but at least we have a capability to do so. I hope we raise a bunch of money, too. I'll let you know.

    1. I believe every state has a group and you don't have to ride a motorcycle in order to join. Just have the heart & passion.

  9. What a wonderful, wonderful service you all perform! I always knew you were a beautiful person with a special loving heart, this just confirms it. Thank you for protecting those families. No one should have to go through that. Those protesters should be deported and find out just what they had to be thankful for living in this great country!
