birthday quilt...

My son, Riley, just had a birthday.....he's had 36 of them!
(I didn't think I had any children that old.....mercy sakes)!
He needed a new quilt - it had been a while since I made him one.

I had this fat quarter pack of "Porch Swing" fabrics - remember them?
When I pulled them out I fell in love with them all over again.

I simply squared each fat 1/4 up then cut them into 4 quadrants - 8 1/2" x 10 1/2".
I got hundreds of them!
I sewed them all together - 11 rows by 11 rows - to make a queen size.
Brown dot Minky for the backing - he needed a warm snuggly quilt - it gets cold in Pennsylvania where he lives.

I quilted an all-over large meander with swirls plopped in every so often.
Scrappy binding - always a favorite!

I had some yardage so I made 2 pillow cases to match.

I think it was the best birthday gift ever!
He thought so, too - called the day it arrived to say, "thanks, mom".
Gosh - I love this boy!

Don't you just want to curl up in that chocolaty minky?

  2. Happy B-Day to your son! How wonderful -- love tucking some sweet piece away and falling in love with it again when it is *found*. Minky is so fun -- plan on doing a twin for grand boy and backing with it :)

  4. I think i've been looking at brights for too long because this looks really pretty and masculine. Pretty and masculine?? can you say those both in the same sentance? I think it's a perfect manly quilt. And I love what you did with the fat 1/4's. Yay for rectangles!!
