whole cloth quilting - easy peasy!

I decided to make each of my teenage granddaughters a snuggly quilt for Christmas.
(I'm pretty sure they don't read my blog so I'm safe)
Here are the results:
I went with a fun print on the front and cuddle fabric
for the backs.
I used wool batting - oh. my. goodness.
This is Miss Elli's - it's a Tula Pink "Free Falling" on the front.

I quilted an all-over simple leaves & swirls pattern.

Elli has aqua in her room so I used a solid aqua for binding.

Miss Amy loves pink and wear glasses - perfect fabric!

She has a white stripe cuddle fabric on the back and solid white binding.

My friend, Carol - from Montana, jumped on the whole cloth wagon and pieced this lovely king size quilt.

I can't decide which side I like better - the trees or the tiny floral....

 That stripe binding is perfect.

Just an idea for an easy yet wonderful gift.

  1. Those quilts are really SO wonderful. I love each one of them. I think we all get so involved in making pieced quilts, we forget about a simple quilt like that, with your beautiful free motion quilting all over. GREAT quilts, beautiful!!!

    1. Thank you, Lynne. You're right - we all seem to forget about the beautiful prints out there that don't need to be cut up!

  2. The magical part of a quilt isn't how many tiny blocks are cut and pieced back together. But rather the amount of love that's stitched right in there! Your granddaughters will love these. Merry Christmas!

  3. I need to do this for my daughter. She's too cheap to turn up her apartment heat and is always complaining about being cold. I bet they're tasty with Minky backing and wool batting! Nicely done! Merry Christmas, Kathy-o!

  4. I think these are lovely! I have been intrigued with doing whole cloth quilts since seeing European eiderdown quilts on a website that were all one gorgeous print. I love the look and, not gonna lie, the almost instant gratification since I'm not someone who can piece together a quilt quickly. Your granddaughters are going to love these! Merry Christmas Kathy and a blessed New Year!
