Why do I think I need to always be making the more
difficult quilts?
I get all excited about challenging myself, pull out that challenging project that I've saved, pull all the fabrics I think I want to use, cut out maybe ONE block.....then put it away for another day.
I do love a challenge, but when my life is already full of all the things I love to do, I don't have time to just concentrate on one project that will consume my "free" time.
So - I decided to chose the word
"simplicity" for my 2017 goal.
My friend, Sherri, from Alaska, recently sent me this
quilt of hers to quilt.
It's so simple.
It's so perfect.
When she got the quilt back she said, "It's kind of fun how happy and simple squares quilt makes me feel."
I agree!
I quilted 1/4" on both sides of every seam - simple.
This Cotton & Steel fabric is perfect for the
backing & binding.
Pretty little squares...
That grey gingham alternating block is perfect, too.
Simple - simple & perfect.
I'm going to work on simplicity this year - thank you, Sherri, for the sweet reminder.
Simple is really just fine. What size are the squares?

The squares were about 3" finished - it was a good twin size quilt. Simple is fine!
DeleteSimple is awesome. What a delightful quilt! I love your word. I picked embrace. I need to embrace whatever comes my way this year!
ReplyDeleteOh - the word "embrace" is an excellent one, too.
DeleteMy thoughts exactly. Sometimes there is pressure to feel like you're competing....especially when you hang out at a quilt shop. I have learned to only make what I like and what appeals to me. Not making things just to say that I've mastered a new technique....
ReplyDeleteOh.....the pressure in a quilt shop can be overwhelming! Just stay true to yourself and do what you love.
DeleteOh I love it!! What a simple but beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteHere's a simple response: Perfect!
ReplyDeleteI switched to Simple mode about two years ago. It's much more satisfying to finish than fret over undone. I love this quilt, especially the gingham fabric. And the backing is perfect!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right - if I wait for all the more difficult quilts to get done...they become "undone"!
DeleteI think Simple is the perfect word for any year! You know me, I always go for simple quilts, because I know they are the only ones I will actually have time and commitment enough to finish. I love them anyway, and so do my kids :) This quilt is beautiful! Who wouldn't love it? A quilt in the hand is worth two in the WIP pile ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your little quote - "a quilt in the hand is worth two in the WIP pile".....perfect!
DeleteThat gray gingham is perfect. Yes, I love simplicity!
ReplyDeleteRight? That Sherri - she can pick fabrics out like no other. I need her to pick my next quilt project out for me!
DeleteI love your word for the year, too. I recently chose "simple and excellent" for my business. I'm a writer and I work with older folks in my community, capturing their stories so children and grandchildren will know of their youthful adventures. In the evenings I sew and quilt to let my brain rest. How fitting that my writing motto would fit with my fabric dreams.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and look forward to sending off a piece one day for you to quilt. Your work is "excellent" and beautiful. Thank you for all you do, and for sharing your life with us.
"Simple and excellent"....that's perfect for you business and the memories you're creating. You have such a kind heart. Thank you for the compliments on my "job" - even though it never feels like a job. I absolutely love what I do and I love my life.
