Sherri's Trip Around the World

My friend, Sherri, from Alaska, sent me some pretty fabrics she had extras of.
I decided to use them in a Trip Around the World quilt.

I was teaching this class and decided it was the perfect time to use these lovely fabrics.

The back is a Tula Pink Free Fall extra wide.

See those little birds floating around among the
giant dots - love it!
I have a scrappy binding.

I quilted cross hatching in the center and swirled the borders.

This is one of my favorite color combinations - I used an Amy Butler floral for my starting point in pulling fabrics.

Here's a shortened version of the fabric requirements and cutting to create this twin size, 75" x 99".
You could easily find detailed instructions online......somewhere out there!

Fabric requirements:

3/4 yard each of 7 colors for the center
1st border      3/4 yard
2nd border     7/8 yard
3rd border         1 yard

Cutting requirements:

Cut 7 strips @ 3 1/2" from each color which will give you 7 panels - sew them in the same order.
The borders should be cut the same 3 1/2" width.
(I used what I had on hand for borders)

Thank you, Sherri, for sharing your beautiful fabrics with me. I love this quilt!

Lexie & Miss Tula's 100 blocks

Lexie did it - she pieced all 100 blocks from Tula Pink's book, "Tula Pink's City Sampler".
It's so pretty...she used Tula's fabrics.
I need to make one.

I wanted to quilt each block with as much straight line
quilting as I could.

In the background sashing I quilted a wood grain design.

The blocks are so simple which allows you to add some really fun fabrics in them.

It was such fun to quilt!

Lexie used one of my favorite Tula Pink extra wide backings - "Free Fall".

Here's another quilt Lexie pieced.
It's "Stars & Stripes" by Thimble Blossoms.
You can purchase it here.

You all know how I feel about anything patriotic...
This is such a great quilt!
I quilted straight vertical lines in the blue fields, wavy horizontal lines in the stripes and swirled
that darling background.

Her backing is perfect - it's another extra wide back.

Lexie is always working on quilts I want to make, too.
Thanks for the inspiration!

2 finishes.....Lone Star & Single Girl

I've been wanting to make this quilt for a few years now.
It's "Single Girl" by Denyse Schmidt.
You can get the pattern on her website here.

I decided to use some of my Denyse Schmidt fabrics that I've been collecting.

Here's a peak through my cute iron bed frame...it's very old and I love it!

My bed frame is a full size so this queen size quilt drapes really nicely.

I quilted a simple swirl with pebbles design in the solid areas and straight-ish lines on the rings.

I purchased the backing, "Sparse Floral", from Hawthorne Threads - it's a Denyse Schmidt print, too, along with the binding.
I really love DS prints and wanted an entire quilt out of them.
I'm so happy with the results and I would definitely make this quilt again.

You know how I love Lone Stars.....

I made this one out of happy prints from my stash.
I had several yards of the green henna garden and wanted it for the background.

The backing is one of my favorites "finds" to date - Free Fall from Tula Pink.
I purchased mine from Hawthorne Threads, again!  (I love this place!!!)
It comes in several color ways so the creamcicle was perfect for my colorful quilt.

It made me happy to use this cute pink DS eyelet print for the binding.

I feels SO good to get a couple of quilts finished and on my beds!

Julie's "Tula Pink" 100 block city sampler quilt

Julie - from Denver - created this stunning 100 block city sampler quilt.

It's designed by the amazing Tula Pink.
(you can purchase a signed copy of her book here - on her website.)

City Sampler Book - Autographed by Tula Pink

They are 6" blocks and by the time you set them with pretty sashing it end up being a king size quilt!

Julie did an absolutely beautiful job at picking out just the right fabrics and piecing.
Here we go with lots of photos, but it's worth it!

Julie's sashing and setting is so cool....perfect for these modern blocks.

This is Julie's backing - I love how the quilting shows in the solid areas of the pieced section.

 Close-ups of some individual blocks:

I did a simple swirl in the background areas.

I loved quilting it - each block got it's very own treatment!
I own the book, "Tula Pink's City Sampler", so I used it for inspiration when quilting.

One day......I will bust out my Tula fabrics and start on this quilt, too.

So lovely, Julie.
Thank you for asking me to quilt it.

a Tula Pink "City Sampler" & "Swoon"

My sweet customer, Debbie, from Mississippi, (I love writing that state name), took sewing seriously and created this amazing "City Sampler" quilt.
It is designed by Tula Pink....(love her).
There are 100 pieced blocks.

Debbie used some pretty funky, fresh prints!  It's one of those quilt you find yourself staring at and pondering over.
It has a very modern flair - she set them in a certain order so the over all colors blend from one to the next.
Very clever!

You can purchase the book here.
I'm headed there right now!
This is seriously one of those quilt I need to make.
I quilted large vertical loops in the blocks (I didn't want to cover them up with quilting) and a swirl in the background area.

Debbie also made this very pretty "Swoon" quilt for her
sister-in-law.
I've quilted many "Swoon's" and I love them all over again each time I see one!

Here are a couple of photos of my favorite blocks of Debbie's:

I quilted an all-over loose swirl.
Scrumptious!

You can read more about Debbie on her personal blog here.
Beautiful work...
