Charm Pack baby quilt tutorial...

My sister-in-law, Carol, asked me to make a baby quilt for a baby shower gift.

 

 

(it was a bright sunny day when I photographed)

 

 

I decided to go very traditional and use some charm packs with lots of pink!

 

 

 

Here's what you'll need:

finished size - 42" x 49"

 

2 charm packs

1 1/4 yards solid

1/2 yard binding

1 1/2 yards backing

 

Cutting:

 

From the solid fabric:

   ~ Cut 5 - 8" squares then cut each of these TWICE diagonally to use for your side triangles.  (yields 20 - you will use 18)

   ~ Cut 2 - 4.5" squares then cut each of these ONCE diagonally to use for the corner triangles.

 

You will use 50 charms squares for the center of the quilt.

The remaining squares you will cut in half for your inner pieced border.

Inner border:  cut 4 - 2 1/2" strips

Outer border:  cut 6 - 2 1/2" strips

 

Sewing:  (you will be sewing diagonal rows)

 

Start with a side triangle and sew it to a charm square.  Add another side triangle to the other side of the charm square.  This is your first DIAGONAL row.

Continue in this manner adding or subtracting charms as you build your rows.  (see 2nd photo for placement)

Add a border of 2 1/2" solid strips to "float" your cute quilt.

Add a border of 2 1/2" cut charms - sew end to end.

Add an outer border of 2 1/2" solid strips.

 

You're finished!  And it's darling!

I machine quilted it with double bubbles - makes it look a little puffy!

Danielle, who lives in Colorado, was on a sampler kick!

I quilted an all-over clam shell in the center and cross-hatched the checked border.

 

 

This one is made with pretty Christmas prints.

 

 

I quilted swirls in the center and orange peeled the outer checkered border.

 

 

Then Danielle adds this very modern quilt!

 

 

Each block was different.  She wanted me to use a variegated primary colored thread...perfect!

 

 

I quilted double bubbles in the sashing and single waves in each block.

Then she sends me these darling Pyrex salt & pepper shakers!

Pow-Wow quilts!

Cute Katie, from Pennsylvania, sent these adorable twin baby boy quilts to be quilted. 

I love this pattern!

It's "Pow Wow" from Cluck Cluck Sew.

Each one had different prints so I quilted them different.

One was quilted with swirls, the other one was quilted with double bubbles.

 

But look at these flannel backings....

extra cute!

 

 

Katie tucked this cute little pyrex dish inside the box when she sent the quilt "parts" to me.

 

She knows I love pyrex and said while she was out shopping, she saw this blue dish and thought it was perfect to send with the little boy quilts.

 

I course I filled it with coconut flavored M&M's.

Oh my!

Have I ever mentioned my love of coconut?

Oh, that's right - I have - here!

Candy's quilts

Candy, from Missouri, sent some pretty adorable quilts to be quilted.

Here are a few snap shots of them...

First up - a scrappy red & white strippy quilt.

 

 

I quilted an all-over large swirl.

 

 

Wouldn't you love to take a little stroll through her stash?

 

 

  I believe everyone should own a red & white quilt!

Next - this adorable Aneela Hoey Red Riding Hood baby quilt. 

 

 

I'm in love with the little ribbon "pull tabs" she inserted - brilliant!

 

 

I quilted chunky flowers with some loops

thrown in.

 

 

Then a college quilt for an OSU student.

 

 

Candy used the "never fail" Yellow Brick Road pattern.

I quilted loops in the center and straight lined the outside border.

 

 

Look at this back - a touchdown, right there!

 

 

Candy is definitely ahead of the holidays - this Halloween quilt is so darn cute!

Then added long figure "8's" on an inner border.
